The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF is an institution of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V. (FhG) and is located in Freiburg im Breisgau. The institute develops electronic and optoelectronic devices based on semiconductor materials as well as synthetic diamond. Its technologies are used in areas such as security, energy, communication, health and mobility.

DLR is the Federal Republic of Germany’s research centre for aeronautics and space. We conduct research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation. The German Space Agency at DLR plans and implements the national space programme on behalf of the federal government. Two DLR project management agencies oversee funding programmes and support knowledge transfer.

Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen is a university of the state of Baden-Württemberg in Tübingen. It was founded in 1477 at the instigation of Count Eberhard im Bart, making it one of the oldest universities in Europe and also bears the first name of the Württemberg Duke Karl Eugen. It offers the range of subjects of a comprehensive university.

Owing to its excellent research output, an outstanding study environment and a tight-knit international network of partners, the University of Passau is a highly visible and highly respected academic and research institution in the heart of Europe.In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the University of Passau was among the top 20 percent worldwide both in 2019 and 2020. Among the ‘Young Universities’, the University of Passau ranks 16th worldwide and second among German universities.

Universität Regensburg, founded in 1962, is located on a modern campus at the southern edge of a historic city dating back to the Roman Ages. The university provides a broad variety of disciplines, a favourable student-teacher ratio and excellent facilities.

The goal of the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science is to have impact through publications, software and people alike.

RWTH Aachen University exploits strong research networks and the intellectual curiosity of its staff to address bold scientific questions, transfer forefront knowledge and drive innovative discoveries that impact global challenges. The University educates over 47,000 students enrolled in 150 courses. This includes more than 12,477 international students from over 138 countries.

Founded in 1836 as a “trade school”, the TU Chemnitz has been receiving funding since April 2019 as part of the WIR! program – Change through Innovation in the Region. Up to 15 million euros are available as part of the participation in the two collaborative projects Smart Rail Connectivity-Campus and SmartERZ. The aim of the Smart Rail Connectivity-Campus is to establish a research campus in Annaberg-Buchholz for research into autonomous train traffic.

Founded in 1745, the Technische Universität Braunschweig is a technical university rich in tradition with a clear profile in research and teaching. It belongs to the grouping TU9 and in its engineering core subjects to the TOP 9 universities in Germany. Currently, TU Braunschweig cooperates with more than 400 partner institutes and research institutions in more than 60 countries.

The institute for innovative microelectronics (IHP; Innovations for High Performance) IHP`s activities are concentrated on the research and development of silicon-based systems, high-frequency circuits and technologies including new materials. It develops innovative solutions for applications such as wireless and broadband communication, aerospace, biotechnology, health, automotive industry, security and industrial automation.

Kiel University (CAU) was founded back in 1665. It is Schleswig-Holstein’s oldest, largest and best-known university, with 27,000 students and around 3,700 members of staff. It is also the only fully-fledged university in the state. Seven Nobel prize winners have worked here. The CAU has been successfully taking part in the Excellence Initiative since 2006.
